Transformers Autobots Logo Cake

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

All kids, and many kids at heart, recognize the Transformers logo. I don’t see and appreciate the complexity of many designs like this logo, until we make the cake.

Atti loves eveything that’s Transformers. His birthday had the Transformers decorations, bouncer, goodie bags, and of course, the Transformers Autobots Logo cake. Atti was excited as every new Transformer was revealed. I was happy to get a good hug for the cake. And I was glad to hear Atti’s dad show off the cake, explaining that the painting on the Autobot face and Transformers logo is exactly like the real thing.

Atti ~ I was excited to be there when you came into this world six years ago, and I love getting to see you grow up. Happy Birthday Atti!

CBS 5 Eye on Blogs

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I’ve just recently discovered blogging communities and blogs on blogs when I found this! Brittney Gilbert from Eye on Blogs on cbs5.com writes about local blogs and posted a review of the AJ’s Moonlight Bakery blog. We’ve been excited about the reviews we’ve received from our clients, and now this is great to get a local plug for the blog on cbs5.com.

Cute!: Charming San Jose Cake Blog

Posted by brittneygilbert

Reader Mary Pascual alerted me to an incredibly delightful blog out of the Bay Area’s largest city, San Jose. Y’all, it’s a cake blog. Instantly enamored, aren’t you? It was set up by a bakery called AJ’s Moonlight Bakery, and they do incredible work. They document their delectable, edible projects on the blog, and give a little backstory about each.

Check out the First Unitarian Church Flaming Chalice Celebration Cake, the Deluxe Scrabble Board Cake, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee Sweet 16 cake to see works of the works of art. This blog is a great example of a business using the medium of blogging to market itself in a highly effective way. Seriously, now I’m craving cake.

Sweet!

First Unitarian Church Flaming Chalice

This lemon cake with lemon buttercream frosting celebration cake is decorated with the flaming chalice and symbols of the First Unitarian Church in Downtown San Jose for the ordination of Jennifer Debusk. Delivery was a little tricky with Jennifer going down the same hall that we were walking down with the cake.

First hidden behind many people, and then out of sight with the cake, we were shown to the cake table. Many ladies surrounded the cake to marvel at the realistic symbols around the cake, and ask what the symbols were made of and how they were made. Despite speculation that we found molds of these symbols, they were actually hand-sculpted by Amy. She studied the church flyer to be certain to get the symbols just right.

The ladies were so impressed, they had to show us the actual large symbols lined up around the altar. It was great to see these impressive symbols after looking at the pictures for so long to make the miniatures.

If you’re downtown, go visit the First Unitarian Church on 3rd Street. Everyone there is extremely friendly and will welcome you with open arms.

This letter was forwarded to us by Kelly who worked with us on the design of Jennifer’s cake:

Dear Kelly,

Wow! I continue to bask in the afterglow of my ordination. Thank you so much for being in charge of the delicious meal. Many people commented on the wonderful food and helped themselves to seconds. And what an amazing cake! Beautiful, artistic, and delicious. How perfect for an ordination that celebrates the arts and nourishment of the body and soul.

I have attached for you a couple photos as fond memories of my ordination. Once again, thank you for making this celebration so special!

Blessings,
Jennifer

San Jose Sharks Logo Cake

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Manny is raising his daughter, Annalise, right. Just like daddy, she’s a Sharks fan. Manny admitted that he wanted the cake for himself, but he can get his own on his birthday.

Deluxe Scrabble Board Cake

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Shana’s sister, Maria, loves Scrabble. This cake was designed to look like the Deluxe Scrabble board that sits on a wood base with wood trays and tiles. It’s a delicious combination of chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting.

We had to play the game to figure out how to get these requested words on the cake: “Happy Birthday Maria”, “Beatles”, “tattoo”, “trees”, and “Obama”. Some of the rest of the jumbled letters were put in the trays surrounding the cake. We had memories of getting the tray with all of the high points letters. Our guess is that Maria knows just how to use them.

I’m just wondering if Maria showed Shana her tray in front that spelled “sisters”.
