Pregnant Belly Cakes Everywhere

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

The pregnant belly cake has become our most popular cake, beating even the San Jose Sharks logo and hockey puck cakes, and the many versions of the Louis Vuitton and other luxury purse cakes. Why the demand? I, myself, know many pregnant women right now. Something happened last year and it seems like we’re about to have a bunch of new little babies.

Most baby showers and their cakes are all about the baby that everyone gets so excited about. What I love about this cake is that it celebrates the transformation the mothers go through to bring these babies into the world. I know all the woman laugh with the message “Bye Bye Tummy, Hello Mommy!”

I hope all of these pregnant ladies had a great time with their friends and family celebrating their bellies and the wonderful babies they’re going to have. Congratulations mommas!

Santa Clara Fire Department Helmet Cake – Driver Engineer

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

The first time we made a fire engine cake, I had the pleasure of visiting the local downtown San Jose Fire Department. Sergio gave me a tour, showing off the different trucks, letting me take a ton of pictures, and even posing for his own photo shoot. Well, OK, he was really too cool to let me take too many of him, but I know a few friends of mine that would love to imagine spending an afternoon with a fireman. Let them think that slipping on my shoes for a moment, they’d have a great view and could just stay there dreaming.

Santa Clara Fire Department Helmet Cake - Driver Engineer

Michelle is the proud daughter of a retired Driver Engineer for the Santa Clara Fire Department. She was so excited to honor her father with this homage to the many years he served wearing this helmet. That’s right, he was one of those men in uniform fighting the good fight. Please try to contain your excitement, ladies. He’s also someone’s daddy. Or does that even melt your heart, too? Hmmm…

1966 Pontiac GTO Cake & Mexican Chocolate Bon-Bon Cakes

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Amy’s parents have been talking about visiting us from Indiana for a long time. When they announced they’d be here for her dad’s birthday, there was no question that we’d make his 1966 Pontiac GTO into cake.

Poppa Bone isn’t just a classic car fan, he has owned and restored many, many cool cars. And since he lives so far away, he hasn’t actually seen or tried one of our cakes yet. Under the hood (and the rest of the fondant) was banana cake with peanut butter buttercream, a classic flavor combination that Poppa Bone was happy to try. It’s cool to impress a great baker like Amy’s dad with one of our cakes.

Poppa Bone had a cake in his favorite flavors, but we couldn’t leave Momma Bone out of the fun. She’s one of my chocolate buddies. Chocolate is the classic treat for Valentine’s Day (when Momma Bone was visiting) and personally it’s my favorite food. If you also love chocolate, we’ll have something to talk about besides cake.

We let Momma Bone in on the secret GTO cake, and knew she’d be really surprised to get her own cake. Ever since we made the Mexican chocolate cake, I’ve wanted all of my chocolate buddies to try this flavor. Amy made it to look like a giant piece of See’s candies, like a big bon-bon from one of the boxes she’ll get for her birthday.

It was so much fun to bring Amy’s parents to the bakery to show off our space and surprise them with the two cakes. Of course we dove into the bon-bon first, leaving Poppa Bone’s car intact until after the headlights burned out.

Happy Birthday Poppa Bone! We’re glad you came to vacation with your lovely wife and us on your birthday.

We have the best clients!

Monday, March 1st, 2010

How lucky are we to be in the business of making people happy? We’re reminded of how fun and rewarding it is to make these cakes when we see the joyful smile, hear the praise, and even get a hug for our efforts. I just hope our clients know how much we appreciate their kindness when they see our cakes, when we get an email thanking us for a delicious and beautiful cake, and when we hear from their family and friends that they highly recommend the bakery.

When Tammy saw her pregnant belly cake, she was so happy, telling Amy that her cake was just as beautiful as what she had seen on our website. And then she gave Amy a big hug. It’s that joy and appreciation that makes waking up at 4am worth it and makes our day. Thank you Tammy!
