Mario’s 65th birthday was celebrated at the Island Grill’s Bamboo Lounge in San Jose. A blast from the past, his birthday cake was ordered to show off the classic curves of his youth. The red 1950 Dodge Wayfarer has the bubble hood, chrome grill, and a personalized license plate that says “Mario 65″.

Groom’s cakes are becoming increasingly popular at weddings. Most people remember the red velvet armadillo groom’s cake for Julia Roberts’ wedding to Dylan McDermott in Steel Magnolias. Today’s groom’s cakes are still often playful gestures of love from the bride to the groom, though that can take any form.
Lisa married her policeman at the East Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy last weekend. She provided many pictures of her fiance (at the time) and his police car so that we knew all of the details of the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor to make his groom’s cake. We couldn’t resist adding the blue and red lights that really bring a police car to life. Now we’re wondering what other cakes could use a light.

California is not only a destination for vacations and honeymoons, but also weddings. So when a couple comes from Rhode Island to get married, of course their 1969 Volkswagon Bug comes with them.
We received a picture of the exact car to make, including their license plate. The car was sculpted out of coconut cake with coconut buttercream into the classic VW Bug shape.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Rhode Island plate, but when a specific element is requested, we study it to get the details just right. Can you see the light blue wave in the license plate?

People get in car accidents. They spend time worrying about it, picking up the broken pieces, mending what can be mended, and finally trying to forget about the whole thing. And then your friends decide there’s no reason to just let it go.
“We got your car back!” Yes, Nora, Jules, and Moe got the wrecked Mercedes with the smashed side, the exposed riveting from the missing molding, CHP junkyard date stamp, and Henry’s custom tires… back. Just in case Henry might forget, the rest of the message reads, “Happy Birthday! We love you!”
Surprise, Henry! You loved that car. Of course your friends got it back for you… wrecked!

The cake was a big hit! I’ve attached a picture of the celebrant, Henry, appreciating your work. He ended up carving out the driver’s side door just like he was rescued from the car.

I just wanted to echo what Bill said, the cake was awesome and it was definitely one of the highlights. My husband was very surprised (Bill and I had planned this very well and he didn’t even know until it was time to cut the cake). No one has ever seen something like this in any of the birthdays we’ve attended so far - again.
