This is one of those cakes that Amy really gets into. I put together the structure to elevate the cake, then Amy went to work turning a simple cake into a cool pool table. The little balls, triangle, and cue stick looked great on the table with painted wood grain, green felt, and bumpers, and gold accents. Delivered to Cuetopia Billiard Cafe for Jeannie’s 38th birthday party, it was right at home with all of the real pool tables. I wanted to pick up the stick and start playing.
What’s a great day for a 49er fan? Belinda’s boyfriend brought her tailgating with this helmet cake and then they watched the 49ers demolish the Buccaneers 48-3. Now the 49ers are 4-1 for the first time since 2002. Now that’s what I call a great birthday!
What’s one thing that will always put a smile on Vinnie‘s face? Ah, boobs, of course! So we brought this pair to the surprise Secret Show last Friday at the Lake Chalet in Oakland. It was so cool working with Uzette from the Sarah and Vinnie show on Alice to bring the surprise boob cake. Amy’s BFF and one of AJ’s biggest supporters, Gerrie, showed Uzette our black bikini cake and suggested we could bring some boobs to Vinnie. You’ve heard Vinnie sing about boobs before, right?
That’s what was playing in my head as I imagined bringing this cake to Vinnie. Boobs!
I had no idea that at the end of the show Sarah would coax Vinnie into motorboating the boobs. You can hear her on the podcast telling Vinnie to get in there and wiggle his head in the boobs. The crowd went wild watching Vinnie play with his boobs. It was awesome.
And then he stood up and smashed his head in the cake.

Vinnie actually came up to Amy at the end of the show and apologized for destroying the cake. We couldn’t have asked for anything better than exactly what happened.
Sadly, Sarah and Vinnie are on vacation this week, so we’re just listening to reruns this morning. I hope you’re enjoying your vacation and birthday, Vinnie!
On the first day of our vacation to visit Amy’s family, take a look at the shoe that I made with my brother and his wife, affectionately known in my head as the Diaz family shoe cake. Amy had the day off and my sister-in-law, Ginni, came by with my brother to help me make the cake. I was going to try to do it all on my own, but Ginni convinced me that she’ll do anything to help. She’s so awesome. And I’m so lucky. She was decorating cakes when I was still very young, so I knew she’d help a lot.
I was surprised that my brother was also interested and learned to roll fondant and decorate. They kept telling me that they were having fun and getting priceless training as I talked and demonstrated all the steps and answered questions about making a sculpted cake. They’re both foodies and have seen some cake shows. That day it was all demo and practice.
I enjoyed having them both there. And then when I delivered the cake to the bowling alley “300” in San Jose and a bunch of kids, families, and staff were excited about the cake, I was even more proud of what the three Diaz’s created. Thanks for all your help, my brother and sister!
We made this cake a couple years ago and I laughed at the message, “R.I.P. Ernie. Happy 40th Birthday!” Now all my friends are turning 40, and so am I. Hmmm… not so funny?! Well, since I was the youngest in my class, I’ll say what I always say… at least Ernie and all of my friends are older than me. Cue The Simpsons bully “Ha Ha!”
Even if your favorite team didn’t make it to the playoffs, of course you should still proudly show your team colors. A 49ers fan called to help her husband celebrate his 30th birthday at a sports bar and restaurant with his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. I had to give her a hard time for actually marrying a man that’s a Cowboys fan, but there’s more to love than sports, right?
When I brought the cake to the former Jerseys, now The Blue Chip Sports Bar and Family Restaurant, I was thankful to a 49ers fan for opening the door for me. A Raiders fan started to direct me to his table, then seemed to rethink the offer when he saw the cake was in Cowboys colors with some Dallas stars. I found the party in a private room by the large Dallas star painted on the wall–how perfect is that?
A friend of ours was at the party and sent us this message:
Everyone love it!! My family is keeping you guys busy! ♥ We love your cakes! They even taste as good as they look
Have you been to a casino party? I went to one a few years ago for a holiday office party. The office’s top gamblers worked the tables, teaching the newbies how to play. It’s funny that I learned more about how to play roulette by making this table than playing that night. Maybe it was a few too many Cape Cods.
What kind of cake do you get for a casino theme celebration? This roulette table will put anyone in the mood to play. And the Fairbrae Swim and Racquet Club must knows how to throw a party and celebrate 50 years.
I’m still amazed at the roulette wheel that Amy made with the cool wood grain. It looks good enough to play. And the winner is red 21.
What does a Honda Acura, the Economist, a stuffed bear and Cal basketball have in common? They’re all the favorites of Katie’s groom, Jason! After Jason said “I do” and proved that SHE’s his favorite, Katie presented him with this surprise groom’s cake honoring the special things in his life.
We couldn’t be happier receiving this great note from Katie:
Just wanted to send a quick THANK YOU for the AWESOME job you did on our groomscake for the wedding!! I can’t believe it’s been over a week since the wedding, it feels like it was yesterday! My now-husband was SOOO surprised and I LOVE all the details you put in – like the headlights, that was GENIUS!
A formal thank you note will be in the mail soon, but just had to shoot you a quick note and thank you for the amazing cake! Jason still refuses to eat it (it’s still sitting in our fridge) – how long will it last like that?? Cheers ~ Katie
It’s flattering when someone is so thrilled by their cake that they can’t cut it, but cake is meant to be savored. We only use real butter, sugar, and eggs, so without preservatives, the cake is best the day it’s delivered. The refrigerator actually dries out cakes and will only help it last a few days. Cake should be served at room temperature for the best flavor.
Congratulations Katie and Jason! I hope you enjoyed the cake!
I hope you were not expecting me to sing. I really don’t think you want to hear that! Since my birthday is so close to the holidays, I wanted a cute little Christmas tree. Yup, that’s my cake and I always get anything I want for my birthday! Not that I’m spoiled, right?!
I hope you are getting ready to enjoy a wonderful Christmas surrounded by loved ones, soaking up some wonderful Christmas spirit under many holiday lights. Merry Christmas!
Brad Walker came in to talk about a local sausage company that expanded. The New York Style Sausage Company makes awesome sausages in Sunnyvale. He said they’re a great client of his and they have a great sense of humor, so he wanted to congratulate them on their expansion with a cake with big boobs. So this is what we came up with.
I know he was thinking of a few other lines about busting at the seams, but instead of leaving that one in print, he told me they just talked and laughed about it instead. What other lines could you think of for the occasion?
