Franco Sarto Black Pump Tiered Retirement Cake

Franco Sarto Black Pump Tiered Retirement Cake

I’ve only heard great things about “Miss Tracie” who retired from Amazing Creations Preschool earlier this year. We also learned that she loves Franco Sarto shoes and heels which worked perfectly with the cake message: “Thanks for touching so many children’s lives. Your shoes will be hard to fill.” All different little children surrounded the cake, along with colorful stars like what little kids get for good work, and a Franco Sarto heel sits on top. After all of her hard work, we were happy to help her friends send Tracie off to a great retirement.

Tracie was sweet to upload our first fan photo on our Facebook page right after the party along with this note: “Thank you for this tremendous cake! So very me, just beautiful and delicious.” How sweet is that?

Congratulations Tracie! You’ve worked hard for this cake!

Stilettos & Bling Tiered 50th Birthday Cake

I know quite a few women who would be sooo happy to get stilettos and crystals for their birthday. (Or really any day of the week!) Roxanne requested this quilted crystal tiered birthday cake with stilettos on the sides, crystals on the bands, and a sculpted stiletto topper for her hot momma. It sparkled like our birthday gal’s eyes when she saw her cake.

Square Offset Tiered Graduation Cake Patrick

Even if I hadn’t been invited to a preschool graduation last week, I could tell by the orders we have that graduation season is here. For Patrick’s celebration, we made the cinnamon bun cake with brown sugar cinnamon cream cheese icing into a festive tiered offset square cake with a graduation cap and accents of blue.

Congratulations Patrick! The future is yours!

Poker Pink & Black 21st Birthday Cake

Poker Pink & Black 2-Tiered 21st Birthday Cake

Now this was a fun cake to make. Jerry called and told us that his girlfriend is addicted to Cake Boss and would love her own fabulous cake to celebrate her 21st birthday. We started with a simple design with a poker theme designed like the top tier of the Martini Question Mark Birthday Cake for a small party. Then the party grew and the cake design grew and needed more details for its size.

So we arrived at the home for the party and the front door was open. Someone called for Jacky to come to the door, but I knew the cake was a big surprise. I tried to hide Amy holding the cake behind me, then as Jacky came close to us I moved aside to present the cake. Jacky’s eyes lit up and she covered her mouth as she stared at her cake. She looked so excited as she brought us inside to set the cake in the kitchen.

We often don’t meet our clients until we deliver the cake, so I didn’t know which of the many men were Jerry. But I told Jacky that Jerry wanted to give her a special cake because she loves the cake shows. When Jacky gave a playful slap to one of the men, I knew that had to be Jerry. We knew when we left Jacky with all of her friends and a cool cake, she was having a great birthday.

Just the next day we received this note from Jerry:

HI, AMY. Just wanted to thank you again for the cake it was way more nicer than what i imagined it was trully amazing. everybody at the party was blown away especially my girlfriend she was so happy. thank you very much

Yeah, we thought he and Jacky were happy that evening. It’s a thrill for us, too, to be part of their celebration.

Martini Question Mark Birthday Cake

Martini Question Mark Birthday Cake Close-Up

My great grandma was not happy that since there was a hill between our houses that she was sometimes referred to as “grandma over the hill”. As a kid I just didn’t understand how each year my birthday was celebrated with a new numbered candle, but it was not polite for me to ask my grandma’s age.

Now I get it. Our cake artist, Amy, is about to hit a landmark year, and she wants to celebrate to lessen the sting of the big 4-Oh. That comes in March but I’m already thinking about what to do.

I love what Jennifer imagined for Lisa’s birthday. Last year Jennifer came up with the idea for a car from the 1950s to celebrate a 60th birthday. For Lisa’s birthday she wanted a pink and black cake with martini glasses, a question mark topper, and this great message, “30 again? Happy Birthday Lisa!”

Especially when you can’t say the number, you friends will let you know that THEY know. That’s what friends are for, right? Happy Birthday Lisa!

First Unitarian Church Ordination Cake

First Unitarian Church Ordination Cake - Suzanne Marsh

First Unitarian Church Ordination Cake - Suzanne Marsh

The team that organized the ordination for Jennifer Debusk at the First Unitarian Church here in downtown San Jose were amazed by the first cake we made for them. This time we made enough cake for the whole large crowd that came to celebrate the ordination of Suzanne Marsh. This cake has rainbow baubles, the symbols of the church in the gold discs, a chalice topper, and the stole that the ordained ministers wear. We delivered the cake to the church and met Suzanne’s proud son. It’s a joy to be part of a momentous occasion.

Pinky Goes to Hollywood Cake

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

This special birthday cake was for a lady that’s always pretty in pink and making her way to the stars. We’re hoping to hear more about Pinky, with her name glittering in the Hollywood lights and walking down her own pink carpet one of these days. “Welcome to Hollywood Pinky.”

Halloween Cakes

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Here at AJ’s Moonlight Bakery, Amy and I absolutely love Halloween. It’s the colder weather with long nights and decorated houses at the start of months of holidays that make this season great. So you know we were excited to make quite a few Halloween cakes.

For my niece, we made a tiered cake inspired by beautiful invitations. I was thrilled to walk into her Halloween-themed birthday party with a pumpkin cake dressed up for the party. I can’t imagine a better party for a 2-year-old than one with Halloween games where everyone wears costumes.

The design for Hayden’s 1st birthday cake came from a few different cakes that his mom liked. It’s always cool when we can get an idea of what a client likes and then are free to run with the ideas to create the cake.

Owen turned 5 with a Jack Skellington cake and what looked like a great Halloween birthday party. We built up the top of the cake to give the face dimension.

Our last cake went to a Halloween party where the outside of the house had a ton of decorations including glowing ghosts and tombstones. We made this Monsters Cemetery cake inspired by their decor.

Like the holiday, this cake was even better in the dark when you could see the glowing ghosts and the fire glowing under the witch’s cauldron.

Red Zebra Sweet 16 Cake

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

What’s black and white and red all over? Check out our Red Zebra Sweet 16 cake.

Red Zebra Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

We arrived at the Fremont Community Center with the Red Zebra Sweet 16 cake to find red tablecloths with zebra print table runners on all of the tables. That’s when we know our cake found it’s home. Zebra’s are all about the camelflage, right?

The topsy turvy tiers of Mexican chocolate, white chocolate, and coconut cake were all covered in gianduja buttercream. Zebra stripes, stars, black, red, and white baubles, and a red 16 make this a festive cake for a great birthday party.

Happy Sweet 16 Jade!
